Types of residence permits in Montenegro
There are two types of residence permit in Montenegro, temporary residence and permanent residence. Temporary residence is for 12 months and renewed every year. Permanent residence can be obtained if the foreigner has stayed more than 5 years in Montenegro or after 3 years of marriage to a Montenegrin citizen.
When you buy a property in Montenegro, the residence permit you obtain is the temporary residence permit. It means that you need to renew your permit each year, and may obtain it as long as you own the property.
